The ceremony
What a traditional Jewish wedding looks like – step by step.

- 1Signing the ketubah
Before the chuppah, the ketubah – the groom’s commitment to the bride – is signed in front of two kosher witnesses.
- 2The veiling (Bedeken)
The groom approaches the bride and covers her face with the veil – an intimate, emotional moment.
- 3Under the chuppah
The couple enter the chuppah and the betrothal blessings are recited over a cup of wine.
- 4The ring
The groom places the ring on the bride’s finger and says: “Harei at mekudeshet li…” – “You are consecrated to me with this ring according to the law of Moses and Israel.”
- 5Ketubah reading & Seven Blessings
The ketubah is read aloud, followed by the Sheva Brachot over a second cup of wine.
- 6Breaking the glass
The groom breaks a glass in memory of the destruction of Jerusalem – and everyone shouts “Mazal Tov!”
What to prepare
A short checklist to help you get organized. We’ll go through it together during the consultation.
- Proof of Jewish status – for both bride and groom – e.g. the parents’ ketubah or a letter from a community rabbi
- Personal status – if divorced – a get (Jewish divorce document); if widowed – the spouse’s death certificate
- Ring – a plain band without stones, owned by the groom
- Two kosher witnesses – Torah-observant men who are not related to the couple
- Venue & date – choose a place for the chuppah and coordinate the date with us in advance
- A glass to break – wrapped in cloth or a bag

Frequently asked questions
Is the marriage recognized by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel?
Yes. The chuppah and kiddushin are conducted according to Jewish law, and are recognized and registered by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel as a kosher Jewish marriage.
How far in advance should we contact you?
As early as possible. That way we can reserve your date, prepare the ketubah and make sure all documents are ready in time.
Where can the chuppah take place?
Almost anywhere – on the beach, at a hotel, in a garden or a hall. By custom, the chuppah is held under the open sky.
Does the Jewish ceremony replace a civil marriage?
No. The religious ceremony does not include civil registration in Greece. We recommend checking with the relevant authorities in advance what is required to register your marriage.
Do you also provide catering or event planning?
No. We focus solely on the Jewish wedding ceremony and do not provide kosher catering or event planning services.
What if we’re missing a document?
Get in touch – we’ll explain what is required in your case and help you understand how to obtain it.
